Yes, we’re still in San Diego. While it’s a lovely place to be, we much rather be in Mexico right now. So what’s the hold up? Getting our Coast Guard Certificate of Documentation.
To enter Mexico, you need an active Certificate of Documentation that proves to the Mexican government that you own the boat. This document is good for a year before it has to be renewed and ours expired on January 31st. While we applied for a renewal back in November, we still haven’t received our updated documentation. The Coast Guard office in West Virginia is backed up and, due to the recent snowstorm which prevented them from being in the office for an entire week, their backlog is even longer.
At this point, we have no idea how long we’ll be in San Diego. While we’re not on a schedule, this certainly isn’t meeting with our expectations. Being stuck somewhere is no fun, but we’re making the best of it.
